The general gist of computing is as follows: in computer science, but I'm not a Windows developer and I don't really write a lot of compiled or multithreaded programs, so take this with a grain of salt. I hope this information can help many other people. I had everything on low, and that was not helping, so this is quite nice to finally discover. Maybe also experimenting with each cpu core on/off could further increase results, but this one thing alone has made me now able to play perhaps my favorite PC game ever again.īefore this I was getting teens to low 20s fps with literally only hundreds of units total on screen. Now that isn't perfect, but it's a huge improvement over what I was originally getting, which I will get at. This made the game a playable low 30 fps with thousands of units on screen on British grassland map. What you want to do is open the game, then go into task manager, click on details, find Rome, right click, go to set affinity and make sure it's only running on one cpu core. I however today found out on a recent Steam discussion for the game on how to improve the fps on modern computers that from specs alone you'd think wouldn't have any issues. The answers were basically set graphics to lowest and making sure the game was set to play off of gpu, which didn't do anything for me, as I had already tried them/were trying them. I don't know if this is known, but I asked a question many months ago about how to improve performance and didn't get any answers that worked for me. Think we missed one? The one thing missing is a preview option directly in the application. It offers an extensive set of features and options. Another interesting option is the ability to extract tiles from a video file. This speeds up the process significantly. You may create and save lists here, so that you can load them in the future directly. It is recommended to load at least several hundred images for use by the software, as the result won't look nearly as good with a smaller sample size. If you create one of these neat looking mosaic patterns, share it with us in the comments below or on our Facebook Page. You dont need small details since they wont be in the final piece. This’ll work great as a background and you can even play around with the perspective and lighting to get something like this. Once you have chosen the image you want to recreate, redraw it using only basic shapes. That’s it! You’ve just created a neat looking mosaic pattern effect. I’ve set mine to 100% as the Amount, Radius: 1.0 pixels and Threshold: 0. Here you can adjust the settings to your liking. You should now be looking at a neat little mosaic pattern that can be used for backgrounds or even in text.Īnother thing you can do to spruce it up a bit is to add some sharpness. You can adjust the Foreground and Background level as needed for the colors you chose until you get the effect you’re looking for. Here, I brought the Density and Foreground Levels down to 0. Not for long, now go up to Filter > Pixelate > Mosaic and set the mosaic to any cell size depending on how big you’d like the squares to be. We’re left with some fairly realistic clouds if you used blue. With that done, I’m going to double-click the Background layer to turn it into a real layer because right now it’s locked. I set my foreground color to a lighter blue, #0078ff and left the background color at white. We need to set the colors we’d like to use for the Mosaic Pattern. We now have our new blank document to work with. With everything else at default, click OK. File > New with a name of “ Mosaic Pattern” and a size of 1280 x 720 pixels. I’m going to start off by creating a new document. This effect will look great when creating backgrounds or even text patterns. Today, we’ll be taking a look at creating this neat little Mosaic Pattern like what you see below. It’s not very fast in my case, but I digress. And if you’re anything like me, you won’t quit until you’ve done it as fast as you possibly can. Unfortunately, this is something I haven’t been able to try for myself.Īs with all proper racing games, WRC 8 is all about driving as fast as possible on a given stage. I do think, however, that playing WRC 8 with a wheel and pedals will be very close to any rally enthusiast’s dream of actually driving a WRC car. By all means, the cars are drivable, but for those of us who’s used to a gentler type of steering, like in F1 2019, a car that turns before you’ve even thought about it was certainly a difficult experience. Although I like that Kylotonn has tried for a realistic handling model, it doesn’t help when the slightest of touches on the joystick causes your car to a 180 and then back off into the woods. But the waiting time is simply too much, and more often than not someone bails before you’re able to start, and then you’ll have to wait for the lobby to fill up again, or at least that was my experience with the mode.Īs Joakim has said, I would have enjoyed this game a lot more if I had a wheel and not a controller to steer with. The game also features a multiplayer mode, which unfortunately is less than ideal. But say you’re more experienced with the WRC series you can definitely make the gameplay very close to a simulator type. Personally, I had to have some help with ABS-brakes on, and a semi-automatic gearbox, but the gameplay still feels realistic and punishing if ( when) you make a mistake. At least when you can see the road, as I mentioned in the graphics section. You feel like you’re hauling ass, be it in the wintery woods of Sweden or the Argentinian mountains. And if you look away from the control issues, I had ( more on that further down) the gameplay is actually pretty great. This might come as a surprise but, WRC 8 is all about racing on rally stages. Yes, I know you must listen to your co-driver, but a “Right 3, over bumps” doesn’t help me stay on the road when I have no idea when it comes up in my windscreen. And honestly, it doesn’t help that it’s all but impossible to see where the stage heads when the camera is inside the car. Whereas the cars look peak 2019 graphically I can’t help but feel like anything outside of your vehicle is more like early-PS4 era textures. Unfortunately, the stages and surrounding areas are not looking that tremendous. Not that my eyes were focused on other things than the road, of course. The interior is great too, by all means, but as these are all, well, rally cars ( who would have thought? Rally cars in WRC?!) it’s rather bare on the inside. Especially the exterior looks magnificent. If I am ( sort of) my own boss – why can’t I negotiate with sponsors and then apply their decals to my car ( like the GRID-series did)? Sure, it’s a small thing, but small things matter.įoremost, let’s talk about the most significant part of a racing game – the cars. I do wish for a bit more management though, weird as it sounds. It’s a safe bet and allows for enough to do, besides sitting behind the wheel. Tell the R&D division what to focus on with your hard earned XP points and, of course, drive fast to attract other manufacturers to build you a car. You are an up-and-coming driver talent that needs to build your career from scratch. WRC 8’s story has been tried before, with luck. It was time for a change, and WRC 8 was the game to get that honor. Sure, I’ve played the DIRT-games and other racing games, but the WRC series has never found its way onto my PS4 (or PS3 for that matter). Let’s start this with a confession – my last experience with the WRC series’ was WRC Rally Evolved on the PS2, which launched in October 2005 – in other words, almost 14(!) years ago. Platforms: PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Nintendo SwitchĪcquired: A copy of this game was provided by a publisher for review purpose Passive play, though technically a lot safer, won't improve your standings on the leaderboard, so much so that some of your shorter, more unhinged runs might yield better scores than ones that lasted twice as long.Īn expanded repertoire of mechanics, when compared to Devil Daggers, helps increase the pace of the action to match the new objective, too. The game doesn't end when the timer reaches zero instead, your score is determined by the amount of time on the clock when you die (or manage to reach the game's ending). Each enemy kill increases the timer by three seconds, encouraging you to string together kills in an elegant way to keep the action flowing. Each round starts with a timer at 10 seconds, which immediately begins to tick down. While Devil Daggers was focused solely on survival, Hyper Demon is all about aggression. It's also far more approachable than Devil Daggers ever was, making its compelling action more inviting. It's every bit as grueling and engrossing, with even more mechanics to wrap your head around during its intense but short runs. In many ways, Hyper Demon, the next game from developer Sorath, is the logical next step of that formula. With a focus on the most basic attributes of a shooter, Devil Daggers shone with its extreme difficulty and exceptionally high skill ceiling, inviting run after run for hours on end. Doom might be the most renowned shooter that launched in 2016, but the year also played host to another exceptional one: Devil Daggers.
